Towards the end of the pre-wire phase, the home owner inquired about integration for the veranda. A TV was already planned, but the client asked if it was possible to have surround sound outdoors. TYM’s designer, Matt Montgomery, immediately said, yes. Not only was it possible to have surround sound, but it could be a Dolby Atmos audio system, with in-ceiling speakers, and even in-ceiling subwoofers.

Great audio is expected in a home theater, but when the roar of a film’s score and audio envelopes you in an open air veranda guests are both surprised—and thrilled. The incredible Dolby Atmos audio system is complemented by the Sony 4K TV and the Savant video distribution system.

When completed, the remodeled home would have media rooms, and a family room with surround sound, but in the summer, the client and his wife spend most of the time on the veranda and outdoor entertainment areas as their kids played in the back yard.

Everything in this space can be controlled via the home’s Savant Pro automation system. From the TV, to the media distribution, and audio. The Dolby Atmos veranda has become an extension of a home reborn as a luxurious smart home.
